ChatGPT does not consider itself a story generator

ChatGPT does not consider itself a story generator. Rather, it defines itself as a text generator. However, he does not refuse to write stories when asked. The most important thing is that it has analyzed thousands of stories and is able to recognize genres, tones, intentions, target audience and other characteristics that one cannot even imagine.

I am not a writer, but I am a father, husband and teacher. In any of these facets of my life I know the strength and power that a well-told story has to transmit concepts, emotions and principles. But I don’t have the ability of a professional writer to turn my ideas into stories that achieve the impact I’m looking for in my small and close audience.

So I use ChatGPT as an assistant to generate stories of all kinds from bedtime stories for my girldfriend to short stories with morals. Using ChatGPT as a story generator doesn’t make me a writer. But it unlocks my ability to communicate with my loved ones and my students in ways more engaging than advice, lectures, and scolding.

I then invite you to read some of the stories generated by ChatGPT from our conversations. In these conversations I tell him what, why and for whom I want to write a story. Sometimes I have a title, an idea, but other times ChatGPT suggests them to me. I don’t always like the first version of the story and as such I let them know and ChatGPT generates another story following my instructions.

Possibly the most interesting thing about this process is that sometimes I end up so inspired by the exchange we have that I write a story myself in one go. So, ChatGPT works as an assistant, as a muse, as a proofreader, as a coach and as a consultant throughout the entire story creation process.
